Scorpius BioManufacturing is a US-based microbial fermentation CDMO offering strain development, process development, analytical development, and cGMP production of recombinant microbial proteins for vaccines and advanced therapeutics.
At Scorpius, we pride ourselves on prioritizing small programs and providing the attention and flexibility you won't find elsewhere. We dedicated ~3,200 sq. ft. of microbial process development and manufacturing cleanroom space to support your fermentation needs.
Our San Antonio-based microbial facility has two segregated Grade C cleanroom suites capable of performing both upstream and downstream processes. These spaces have capabilities and equipment for:
- Microbial fermentation
- Cell lysis
- Product recovery
- Downstream plasmid recovery
- Protein recovery

Scorpius' microbial cleanrooms feature dedicated air handling units that provide controlled and monitored contract manufacturing environments utilizing HEPA-filtered air for air quality classifications from EU Grade D to Grade A. The cleanrooms are designed modularly with much of the equipment on wheels for ease of configuration and reconfiguration for a variety of microbial projects. Each area is designed for maximum flexibility, including multiple electrical and process gas drops for use with microbial fermenters as well as systems for cell harvesting, mechanical lysis, downstream filtration and purification. Scorpius BioManufacturing's entire Texan facility, including the microbial fermentation cleanrooms, use American-made equipment and consumables, with many supplied mechanicals made on-site.
